CSAT Solutions Reducing Electronic Waste
We live in a world where electronics of all types are a cornerstone of our society. From the cellphones we perpetually have in our pockets to the highly advanced medical equipment that saves our lives in the ER, technology surrounds us. Unfortunately, these electronics do not last forever and eventually get thrown away, causing extensive damage to our planet. CSAT Solutions is taking action in reducing electronic waste. We are proud to share the impact we have and will continue to make.
Impacts of Electronic Waste
First, we want to note how vital it is to take steps in reducing electronic waste. To put it in perspective, did you know that electronic waste accounts for 2% of America’s trash in landfills? While that may not seem like much, that 2% equals 70% of the overall toxic waste. Plus, the tons of waste that 2% represents is 20 to 50 million metric tons.
Sadly, much of that “waste” could have been reused or recycled, but only 12.5% of it is currently. That translates to even more mining and environmental harm required to fill the need for precious metals and supplies, which much could have been harvested from that “trash.”
CSAT Solutions Reducing Electronic Waste
CSAT Solutions is proud to be taking extensive action in reducing electronic waste. Here are five critical services we provide that help our environment.
#1: Our teams repair/refurbish 5,000 laptops/desktops/tablet each day. This activity puts these devices back into use as opposed to scrapping and making their way into landfills. With 5,300 Notebooks repaired daily by CSAT, that equates to 28,355 lbs of product out of landfills daily.
#2: CSAT teams repair over 800 motherboards per day to avoid scrapping and waste.
#3: CSAT teams execute a box recycling program that allows the reuse of shipping boxes each day to reduce the purchase and waste of cardboard and foam for unit shipping. With 3,246 boxes recycled daily, that is equivalent to 5,355 lbs of cardboard and foam waste out of landfills daily.
#4: CSAT teams responsibly recycle lithium-ion batteries daily with certified recycling partners.
#5: CSAT teams repair over 300 LCD screens per day to avoid scrapping and waste. With 250 LCDs repaired daily, that keeps 512 lbs of LCD products out of landfills daily.
